Software Copyright and Licensing Policy

The University adheres to sound business practice in the execution and compliance with software licenses. Software license compliance is the responsibility of staff within the organizational unit where each computer resides. Responsibilities include:

  • Retaining documentation of proof of purchase or other authorization of all software residing on computers within the unit.
  • Purchasing a license for each installed software copy.
  • Removing software from old computers when that licensed software is installed on replacement computers.
  • Removing demonstration copies of software when not purchased for use.
  • Not using unauthorized copies of software.
  • Not making unauthorized copies of software for own use or distribution.
  • Not making available software masters for others to use for unauthorized copies.

Printing

The "Pay for Print" system has been implemented at the Edwards Campus to bring our services in line with those offered on the Lawrence campus. Students will be charged 8 cents per sheet printed on the library or computer lab printers. Students receive $8 on their account for the fall and spring semesters and $4 for the summer term. After the money for free printing is used up, students can add to their "Enroll & Pay" account to pay for further printing. If all the money for free printing is not used by the end of the term, the value is take off of the student's account.

Copying

Copy machines are provided in the library for students, and faculty can use their departmental codes to use the faculty copier in their office area or behind the reception desk.

Lab Usage

  • Availability: Labs in the Regents Center building are generally open for use when the building is open. They are only unavailable during scheduled classes that have reserved them in advance. These schedules are posted outside of each room.
  • Food and Beverage: Please do not bring food into the labs. Drinks are allowed with secure tops.
  • Downloads: Please do not download freeware onto the machines. If you need a specific software to complete a class project, your program department needs to supply the software and licensing.
  • Software Installs: Fill out the AV Request Form one week prior to your need. The department making the request provides the software and licensing.
