I am an Academic Advisor because I love solving problems and connecting students with knowledge of resources, especially when it’s about their future outcomes. Working in education for over 10 years and as a site coordinator for GEAR UP has enriched me in many ways in understanding the students’ experience first-hand of their triumphs and successes. I realized the most important approach to building a positive relationship is by empathizing and “being in one’s shoes” as an academic success coach. Advocating for students is my calling, as I follow them through their entire life cycle in their academic journey. It’s such great joy that I can actively listen to one’s desire in finding the best pathway that interests them the most, career ambitions, and long-term aspirations.
